After the dissolution of the Avant-garde Quintet, in the autumn 2006 four of the five musicians decided to create a new ensemble, with the purpose to gather all the experience reached in ten years of activity. The Quintetto Moderno main intent is, on the one hand the desire to begin useful cooperation with contemporary composers – in the broadest sense of the word -, commissioning them to write new pieces for this ensemble and also involving authors who are apparently foreign to the learned tradition; on the other hand the ensemble contemplates dealing with the traditional repertoire for a wind quintet from a contemporary viewpoint, in particular for the European Twentieth Century authors: Schönberg, Henze, Hindemtih, Ligeti and so on.
